Hiking in Cinque Terre, Italy
May 27, 2015
I'm excited to say that my first hike ever was in Italy. My cousins, sister and I hiked from the northernmost Cinque Terre village, Monterosso to its neighboring village, Vernazza. We bought the Cinque Terre pass for €12 and it included unlimited metro access between the five villages and all the hiking trails. It was a beautiful day for a hike - sunny with a temperature of 73 degrees Fahrenheit. Of all the hikes between the villages, we would decide on the hardest trail of all - the steepness and length of the trail (3,600km) took us approximately 2.5 hours to complete.
We took some short breaks (we had to capture photos of the scenery ;) and maybe drink some water), but we finished it! We underestimated the hike and didn't bring enough water, but at least we were prepared with our good ol' sneaks, sunscreen, and bug spray. Despite the lack of water, the scenery was breathtaking and worth the trip. There's something beautiful and peaceful about hiking by the seaside. With that hike alone, who needs the gym? Afterwards, we rewarded ourselves with some ice cream in Vernazza. If there's one thing you must do in Cinque Terre, it's definitely the hike. It sure made me want to go on more hiking adventures when I get back home!
