It's that time of year again; when the gym starts to get really crowded because everyone is trying to get fit for summer. It's crazy how much details you notice when the gym has been in your routine for the past year. You see the same familiar faces at the same times during the week. You start to figure out others' routines and who everyone's gym buddies are. In June it will officially be my one year membership anniversary with the AtlantiCare Life Center.
During my senior year at Rutgers, one of my friends, Dj, convinced me to incorporate resistance training into my workouts and it's been a routine ever since. I can't believe I used to think cardio by itself was sufficient enough for the fitness goals I had. I fell for the most common misconception and used to think lifting weights would make me "big" and "bulky," but I definitely don't think that anymore. The gym has even become the primary rendezvous spot post-graduation from our alma mater. We barely do the same workouts together even when we are both there at the same time but when it comes to the post-workout cool down, we find the time to catch up with each other. It doesn't get more productive than this: getting a good workout AND socializing.
For me, the gym is a special place because it shows me the results that come from consistent dedication and it's also where some of the best relationships in my life continue to grow and develop. All those gym dates aren't for nothing!
